Forster Co-Ax Question

It's about time for a new press and I have a question for you Co-Ax users.

I notice that there may be clearance issues with tall seating dies. FWIW, I have and use Redding micrometer, Forster micrometer, and Hornady with micrometer top seaters. I already use Hornady lock rings on every die.

Am I going to run in to any problems with this press using these dies.

Thanks,

the lock rings need to be full round type and not the one with the squared edges, I have never had issues with the die clearance even with 375 h&h but it is close with the micrometer style but it is close but I have not had a problem with them,Rw

There is an article on the Bulletin about the press and the lock rings. Seems that the Hornady split lock ring was the one suggested. I do have some Forster lock rings, but went to the Hornady rings because they are steel and cheaper.

As I stated earlier, I would rather buy something else than run into a clearance issue with all of my seaters.

But, I sure do like the idea of the Co-Ax......

There are also incompatibility issues with bullet pullers - you have to use the Forster - the RCBS and others of the same design, will not work.

Understand. I have never had good luck with that type of bullet puller anyway. I now use a Grip n Pull.

Looks like a Davidson type puller, just with more holes. They are a plier style puller in other words.

I use a co-ax with Redding Micrometer dies and Hornady lock rings and I've had zero issues with any of them.

the grip n pull will not work with the forester. I found out the hard way. But don't let that stop you from buying the coax its the best press I have ever used..

Good point. My thought process hasn't gotten that far.

I have other presses, but my stand by has been an old Orange Crusher that is very worn. That's a good excuse for a new press. I'm just trying to make sure it will work with my dies. The Hornady with micro top is tall, but they are good seaters.

A picture is worth a 1000 words. So here's my picture.

There is plenty of clearance on mine, even when using a 300 RUM Forster micrometer seater (which I think is even taller than the Redding ones).

fwiw,
I've used Redding Competition Seaters & Neck Sizers UP TO .300 Winchester Magnum shooting 190 grain SMKs and still cleared the handle on my Forster B-2 Co-Ax. The Same die in .300 Weatherby or .300 Ultra might very well be an issue. That said I think they modified the yoke on the new B-3 to accommodate pretty much anything to .338 Lapua and beyond...fwiw

It even has a very good priming set up I have no need for a hand priming device.

Could not agree more. I have the Sinclair Priming Tool along with the RCBS bench tool, however, I think the ON PRESS priming tool on the CO-AX is nearly impossible to beat. Seats it below flush every time without worrying about crushing a primer. I'm NOT talking about the Forster Priming Tool, have no experience with it, but rather the on board primer on the Co-Ax Press. The best press on the market...imho

Regards, Matt.

There are a couple things you can do to improve your Co-Ax. Get a hex nut to secure the post that opens the case jaws. The press bottom is flat and it makes the jaw opening feel solid. You might also consider the optional Co-Ax Sentry Systemâ„¢. It's a little pricey to acquire and maintain but is pretty effective. ;)

I bought the shellholder adapter kit for mine, since I normally use the Redding graduated shellholders to control headspace.

I like the press better this way, and I removed that rod with the point on it that operates the jaws on the automatic shellholder.

Also, I use the Redding Competition Seating Die in this press for my .338 Lapua Magnum. It's the longest die I have ever seen and it clears the yoke fine.
