Forster 6.5x47 FL Die Expander Ball

I received my Forster 6.5x47 Lapua FL die a couple of days ago and sized a few cases and noticed that it didn't feel quite right. I sized 25 out of the box a few minutes ago, some of which had severely dented necks. I noticed that on the ones with the dents, that it didn't size the dents out all the way out, so much so that I could still see the non-concentricity with the naked eye. Well, I unscrewed the expander assembly and mic'd the expander ball, it's only .2564, about .008 undersized. Whereas, on my Forster 338 LM die the expander ball is .3373, so obviously my 6.5 Lapua die has the incorrect expander ball.

So, if you order one, check the expander ball dia.

Mike, I recommend with new Lapua brass, of various calibers, to run a caliber-diam expander mandrel down the neck the first time. This will iron out the dents and reduce the neck tension which is usually excessive for our needs right out of the box.

It does seem that your button is undersize, however.

Yeah, I usually run them all over my K&M mandrel first, if it was a bench or varmint rifle I wouldn't have cared. This is for a tactical no neck turn rifle so I didn't plan on pulling the ram twice on 200 cases. FWIW, I ran them over the mandrel and back through the die and the necks are fine.

Foresters web addy no listy these dies. Is best way to call them ya think? I don't wanna get the wrong dies ya know...,similar product #'s and all)
