Forster .223FL die Neck Ream

I sent my Forster .223 FL die out to them to have the neck opened up so as to not work the brass as much. My loaded round neck outside diameter is .2503 using Lapua brass and Berger 70 gr VLD. The tech at forster told me the die could only be opened up to .244 without causing problems so that is what I'm going with. I sort of figured .246 would be ideal so that's pretty close.

I have been dealing with a similar thing here lately. Just put the rifle together, its a .252nk and my loaded rounds with a Berger 60gr flatbase mic at around .2505". I have a Redding type S fl die and .246 and .247 bushing and both are too tight. I'm getting ready to order a 258 and 259 cause I just hate to pull that expander ball through the necks.

Tightneck,

Mines a box stock Savage so I think the chamber at the neck is probably .254 or better, just guessing).

Like I said the Lapua mic's out to .2502 loaded but Winchester comes in at .2468! The Lapua should help fill that big chamber.

I mic'd the Forester expander ball and it comes in at .2232.
I may try the die with and without the expander to see what happens. If I'm still not happy I'll buy the Redding Competition bushing die which is pricey.

I noticed on Reddings bushing range chart that the .223 goes form .244-.252 so going by that the Forster mod will put me at the tight end of the range.....not exactly where I'd like to be. With the loaded Lapua at .2502 I'd say .246-.247 is probably perfect.
