Forming 6XC from 22-250 brass?

where can i find a "how to" on fire forming 22-250 brass to a 6XC.

i know i'd need to use the 6XC dies with a tapered sizing button, but i'm wanting to know if i need to make a false shoulder, size up to 6.5, then partially down to 6mm)or if the case need to to be trimmed before firing etc....

Or do i just load the round to jam hard into the lands and fire it?

thanks,
Jeremy

I would not advise following fivering's posting, which is now removed from this thread) as it suggested all you need to do is neck up 22-250 brass and fire form it into a 6XC chamber which is not correct at all as 22-250 brass will not chamber in a 6XC chamber without the shoulder of the brass being reformed.

It is true that the neck of the 22-250 brass needs to be necked up to 6mm, but you also have to reform and bump the shoulder on the 22-250 brass,by running it through the 6XC resize die using something like Imperial Sizing Die Wax). When you run the brass through the sizing die, assuming you have your dies set up reasonably correct) the reformed shoulder will normally head space correctly such that you do not need to worry about making a false shoulder or loading bullets into the lands to hold the case back, like with some forms of fire forming).

FYI, the best method for making 6XC brass from 22-250 brass is,in my opinion) the Medler method, which is what I do) where you first use a body die of a 308 with an elevated type shell holder to roll the shoulder of 22-250 brass a little,so it does not mushroom when you run the 22-250 brass through the 6XC sizing die to reform the shoulder), then use the 6XC sizing die to reform the shoulder of the brass.

Fire forming is a no brainer, load it and shoot it - done!

Can you chamber a 22-250 piece of brass, without projectile) into the 6xc chamber? If so, I would recommend the "cream of wheat" fire forming method.

10g of Red Dot pistol powder in 1st, then fill to the bottom of the neck with cream of wheat, non maple version) and then stuff a small cotton ball on top.

I've fireformed hundreds of .308 cartridges this way and it goes very fast and effective for me.

No! See my first posting above, the shoulder of the case needs reforming.

Making 6XC brass is easy, just follow the directions that Robert referred to. Stick the brass in the size die, expand neck, create shoulder, load it up and go shoot it. Simple. You will also find that the fireforming loads are plenty accurate enough for some practice matches, etc.

What powder load do you base it off though? There’s no 6 / 22-250 data. So what powder and how much to fireform? Thanks :)
