forester case trimmer

Hi! Has anyone tried neck turning with attachments on the Forester case trimmer.Any pros and cons.Found a deal on one. Thanks in advance Rudy

Yes, when I first started turning necks, but had poor results. The only way to turn consistent necks unless using a lathe is by using a handheld neckturner. Your hand will act as a floating holder and with practice will give you very consistent neck wall thickness.

Hey Rude:

I have turned the necks on many 100s of cases with a Forster lathe-type case trimmer and neck turning attachment. It is not an easy thing to do. The biggest problem is that to get a really good job the neck must fit the mandrel very snug, so snug that it needs lube to keep from galling. The Forster mandrels are too small in diameter to get a good tight fit. Through a series of fooling around tests I was able to get the sized cases to fit the mandrel better and it will do a decent job. I do not use the attachment that feeds the cutter though, preferring to feed by hand.

It is not in the league of the K&M though. If you need accurately turned necks to fit a custom chamber I recommend you go with the K&M equipment, it is excellent. If you need to turn some factory cases to even up the necks, I believe the Forster will work good if you do it right.

Hello guys, thanks for the response that is what i figured.I guess i'll have to pick up a real neck turner.I just was wondering, because i've never heard about any one using one before. Rudy Manuel
