Forearm repair needed.

If that white line in the main crack is some type of glue, (as in wrong type) your problem is much more troublesome than if it had never been messed with.

Still not unsurmountable. jd

looks like that crack has been repaired before?? it looks like it goes all the way to the bottom of the picture, or that's where the fissure in the wood is flowing?? just my look from the photo.

Haven't really examined it closely to find a prior repair. Pictures sent by the seller didn't show the crack.

Ide offer, but it all depends.

Heres one I fixed the other day. Savage 99. Stock cracked from the sight being snug on the stock in high humidity. Both side cracked just outside the sight outline. Left side about 1.5". Right side about 3". Bigger longer cracks are more work and harder to repair. Left side you can't tell it was cracked and the repair is invisible. Left side, if you look close you can see part of it. This repair involves staining the area to match and spot refinishing. This was actually a quick repair just to make it functional and not "perfect"

If your crack hasn't been repaired before and the wood isn't "tore" out inside the crack, there's hope. The big trick with these is getting them back in place and clamping them there, really tight without damaging anything else.

If you have something like the following, that was like that "since I was a kid 50 years ago" and its been "repaired", time for repair and cost of repair goes way up. Its hard to make these look like it never happened. You can see where the hose clamp was.

That's nice work. Mine is nowhere as bad as that. Are you a 'professional' or just a hobbyist~? My crack is more cosmetic than structural and disturbs me because in all other aspects the rifle is perfect looking as 'new as new'.AM-JKLWXtIm2RtmzqR2cy3Ql8pJeH6q9L0S9a_pBnJ3eIbcySjBXlixULAgC.jpg

You may want to tell us what your budget is, or what youre expecting to pay for this?
It's not entirely a matter of budget even though the rifle is not particularly rare or valuable. It's a copy of the 1885 Winchester built by Miroku for US Repeating arms who owned Winchester at the time of manufacture. Their prices have been increasing at a fairly good pace in the recent past, but there is a limit (I don't exactly know what that limit is) and I don't want to spend $100s more on it. I didn't buy it as an investment. I like the crescent butt plate, the 1/2 round 1/2 octagon barrel, the overall appearance, and the accuracy. I paid all the money for it at the time of purchase because it was so clean, had both a tang sight and a Malcolm scope mounted, and because I've always loved 1885s. The seller claimed that the crack wasn't there when it was packed for shipping. He's a GB flipper~!
The crack isn't in a place where it's going to go anywhere, and I could easily swap the sights to another ( a twin ) that I just happen to own, then sell this one for close to what I paid for it. But I don't want to sell any of my '85s.
