For You Gents That Are Really Bored Today: A Home Brewed 50 Lever Gun

Bored? Yep. Reviewing some old project files on the compute today. This beast has been lurking in my vault since 1999.

5500 ft/lbs, verified with the Oehler M43 in conjunction with Quickload.

If anyone wants more info about the build or the range testing, chime in.

It was a fun build, although expensive, but I do not think I will build another.

One could say yours is the world's first lever action anti material rifle.

I remember this project. I think you said you'd wish you'd built it on a 71 or 86 action instead of the M1895

I've done plenty of pondering on the 50 AE Lever gun. Same bolt face as the 44 Mag would get a guy going. Then I come down to what would it do that the rest of my Lever guns won't do?
Nice job on your Big 50 John. How does it shoot?

Lever guns in the same caliber as your pistol are a great pairing. My favorite is my 357, it wakes up the 357 in the carbine. If it would just feed the same favorite load as my FA.

Yep. A Browning 71 with modern steels would be the choice today. Not only for the strength but mainly for the ease in the conversion, the 71 is large enough for the 50-110 so it is a no brainer.

9 1/2 pounds. 2 Mercury recoil absorbers in the stock. Stock extensively modified for the recoil. Sorbathane recoil pad. Easy shooting with the brake, a little stiffer without the brake. I have shot 350 grain loads with one hand, like holding a pistol.

45-70 on the left.

I just wish Ruger would start selling a plain old 336 in 30-30 — Any other cartridges - like 35 Rem:D-would be icing on the cake — Id be in line for both of those

I want a 38-55.

Years ago I had a Marlin Marauder: 336, 35 rem, 16 inch barrel. A lovely rifle for shooting pigs in the Georgia coastal swamps when I was a kid. Dumbly I traded it off for a 629 Smith.
