FOR THOSE AGING EYES...

There are some posters that explain a need for higher magnification scopes due to degrading vision. I am not saying that it's a cure-all, but I recently had CLR (lens replacement NOT Lasik) and I am very happy with it. I had both eyes done and went from about 20/90 to 20/25 in each. It is an "elective" surgery and insurance doesn't cover it. I paid $4995 EACH. You can never get cataracts and it is PERMANENT. I didn't bargain hunt! My surgeon made my right/shooting eye a +3.25 for scope and the left a combo with a preference for distance. My TV screen at 1080 appears so amazing that I literally have a new 4k display still in the box! (also my apartment appears in need of a more "thorough" cleaning).

I had the same procedure done and it came out pretty good. 20/20 and 20/25. I knew I wanted to see distance and still be able to focus a scope properly. Well, with my right eye, (shooting eye) I can see great beyond, say 5'. Any closer than that and it's a blur. Thusly, I can barely focus my scopes. So, your doctor made your right eye a + reading? What did that do for focusing your scope and distance? Sure wish I could have explained it better to my doctor as he had never shot a weapon his entire life and probably had no idea what I wanted.

I can read without glasses and the fine print on the TV. The doctor and I had a thorough discussion. As I mentioned, I didn't bargain hunt, she has done 40,000 + procedures. I told her if I couldn't shoot that I would start shooting haha.

Wow-- so thats Cornea Replacement Surgery? or cataract lens replacement is what i suspect. I say you were smart not to bargain hunt. Our vision is priceless in my view. I had cataract surgery a few years ago which helped me alot. My right (shooting eye) cornea is messed up still though so I cant really see irons and focusing the scope is not great either. Id pay 5K in a minute to fix this. Thanks

Back in the day I read the entire eye chart- whatever number that was. Now at nearing 70 I use bifocals, mainly to get a focus on close items and their is a slight correction for things in the distance. Would that surgery do anything to return my eyesight to what it was?

My eyes were cut on so long ago they used scalpels and valium. The old radial kerotonomy ages very poorly. Interesting topic.

I first learned of it from a friend. She was a lifer glasses wearer. I visited her husband and noticed her sans glasses doing needle point at 74 years old. I was astonished!

Originally called Intraocular lens implantation surgery. This field has evolved considerably since I had my lenses implanted about 15 yrs ago. It would be wise to do a Web search and to consult your Ohpthalmologist as to what procedures are available today. Today they can even correct astigmatism during the "modern" cataract procedure........ I was very happy with the results of my procedure except my eyes take considerably longer to adjust to normal after being blinded by high beams at night. Also, viewing street lights at night they appear as star bursts. Perhaps this is no longer an issue with the more modern techniques

Thanks-I had cataract surgery several years ago and they did correct astigmatism in my left eye during the procedure . Couldnt do my right eye because of keritaconus in it. I dont have trouble at night with the star bursts ect but i do have many many floaters. Otherwise vision in my left eye is better than it ever was but no so great in the right because of cornea damage. Im trying to figure out the difference between this CLS and regular cataract surgery.

Just had new lenses implanted last year (cataracts) and the surgeon also corrected the astigmatism in my right eye using LRI (limbal relaxing incisions). Everything worked out as planned, and like Bob Lee, I opted for the "hi-def" implants (extra $2k per eye - and not covered by insurance but totally worth the $$$s). Both eyes were set up for distance vision. Without glasses vision is now 20/40. With corrective lenses 20/15 and crystal clear! For shooting I went with Decot glasses. The good folks at Decot set me up with a different lens to use with irons vs. with scope - works great! 100% satisfied and thank God for modern medicine!
