For the AR-15 HP Match Shooters

What brand of BCG do you use? I checked the NRA HP rule book and couldn't find anything. Can you use commercial or must it be GI?

How do you mean 'commercial'? For example, White Oak sells BCG's which are to GI specs.
In any case, the only ones that might be frowned upon would be ones like Young Mfg that have enhanced the metal on the BCG.

I use any decent brand bolt, seems better ones are MPI inspected with an M-16 type carrier, they are slightly heavier than a AR15 type

Why would "enhanced metal' be frowned upon?

Sorry - wasn't clear.
BCG's like Young Mfg have additional metal to increase the diameter of the BCG to reduce 'bolt tilt'. That additional dimension would, I assume, be out of mil spec.

ETA: If there's nothing in the rule book, then it doesn't matter.

Thanks for the info. When I checked the rule book I was surprised I didn't see a specific equipment configuration list, ie trigger, bcg, etc., unless I missed it.

I shoot match rifle so not real familiar with all the rules for service rifle. But, my understanding is the rules for service rifles is all about the exterior configuration.
For triggers, there is the requirement that they hold at least 4 1/2 lbs.

I run a mil-spec full auto bolt that is melanite coated without issue. As long as it look mil spec from the outside I doubt anyone would notice even if it did matter. Any BCG should be fine but I personally think a heavy one is better than the semi auto or JP light weight ones. Remember the target is big and position and practice is way more important.

There are few rules anymore highpower, even for cmp matches. Trigger weight is one, caliber, scope magnification and Pistol grip. Everything else, even for service rifle has a lot variation possible.
The civ/gi bolt carrier doesn't matter much. Supposedly, gi is more durable. Idk. My first carrier was a chromed Rock River. It cleaned up very easy. Brake cleaner, oven cleaner etc, no problems.
Any reputable manufacturer should be fine really but I would try to make sure the gas key is properly staked. Beyond that, I doubt it matters much.

As others have stated, any good m16 carrier will work. My brownells nickle-boron bcg is on it's fourth barrel and hasn't missed a beat.

Carriers are easy enough, almost anything works. The bolt is where you’re likely to find differences that matter. As long as the carrier is properly made, it’s fine.

In a nutshell any bolt/bolt carrier is fine as long as you can close the dust cover with them installed, since they’re internal, and by in large all rules regarding HP Service rifles will address what does, or does not constitute and external modification. This may be why no mention of them is found. Notable exceptions to what may not be altered internally are cartridge selection, certain types of triggers, and marksmanship aids that transcend basic mechanical function of the rifle, such as electronic firing aids, etc. Back in 1998 the CMP primarily governed revisions to NRA rule books. Not sure how it is now.

Sonics or BCM bolt carrier groups are what I use , Colt is normally good to go.... You won't hear to much complaining about them except their not exactly cheap.... In bolts you get what you pay for... Plenty of cheap AR garbage out there.... May I also recommend SPRINCO springs out of Austin Texas.... Don't be afraid to call and ask for advice if you're not sure about springs , the owner is super nice... Their buffer springs will out last many many barrels , they also have other stuff for ARs...

I can say that I am trying a BCG from a very popular online place that sells cheap ARs just to see what they will take... So far not exactly impressed , had to change the ejection spring almost immediately on a brand new BCG... Once again I can't express enough that you get what you pay for in the AR world especially for bolts and BCGs..... Cheap will work , but I want more than just working I want it to work when I need it for as long as I need it....

Not sure what 'cheap' is, but $60 will get you a mil spec bolt and $130 will get you a mil spec BCG.
While nitrided/chromed/etc might be 'cool', they don't put points on the score.
