Fluted Remington Varmint contour bbl

Muller Works cut rifled bbl Remington Varmint contour.224, and I ordered it to be fluted with six straight flutes. Is this a bad idea? Will it alter the inner dimensions?
IME, no. If it does, ya gotta be able to shoot the difference or it doesn't matter. I've had a few fluted bbls and could never tell you that they shot good or bad because they were fluted. The subject gets pretty deep, mixed with real and hypothetical aspects but it only matters, if it matters and I don't think it does, on a centerfire, cut rifled and properly stress relieved barrel.

Is this a bad idea?
Not if you think it is worth it. I view it mostly improves the "appearance" of the barrel. I've owned several of the VS SF and VS SF II Remington that were fluted. I could never tell any appreciable difference in cooling (supposed to help) and of course it does lighten the weight of the barrel somewhat.

There are some really attractive and exotic fluting designs. Bugholes (SPR) offers many different ones.

That who I bought this barrel from.

Does fluting enhance a barrels accuracy potential? Does Fluting have a negative effect on a barrels accuracy potential? Does fluting make a barrel stiffer? Does fluting help a barrel cool quicker? Should a barrel be fluted before or after the ID is finished. Does fluting affect button rifled barrels more than cut rifled. Does fluting induce stress in a barrel? Does fluting make a barrel lighter. Does fluting change a barrels appearance?

The only two of these that can be agreed upon by everyone is the last two.

I would think that if properly done, a fluted barrel should have little affect on a barrels performance potential in any application except a short Range Benchrest Rifle, And only then if all other things are equal.

I do not shoot fluted barres because I have no need to.
