Florida Palm Beach Sherrif's Shooting Range Info?

The Palm Beach Sherrif's Shooting Range opens a few times a year for shooting up to 300 yards. The next 300 yard day happens to be this weekend. Has anyone been there before? And if so, any info (i.e., quality and number of shooting benches, target frame setup, size of facility, etc.) you could share about the range so I know what to expect?

The benches are the same cabelas portable wobbly stuff they have always used. Early is best so you can get a bench, If you are latter than 8:00 you may have to wait a while, latter in the day and afternoon the crowd thins out. The 2x2 frames are all GTG bring your own targets but the sheriffs always have some they print for those that forget. Look up the safety rules at the website, they insist you carry your rifle to the bench in its case (this is unique to PBSO as near as I can tell). The officers that run the range go out of their way to provide a safe enjoyable shoot. There are 20 some numbered targets at the berm but they never allow 20 shooters, so waiting happens( an internal rule the sheriffs have no control over). No handguns! It ain't camp Perry but its not bad.

I assume you are south of Central Florida? If you decide to get up north a little, Bradford Sportsmen Farms can go out to 300 yards on the one range and as far as 850 yards if and after you are 'certified' by a range officer who will test your knowledge on ballistics a little. BSF is about 20 miles north of Gainesville in a small town of Graham FL. Good people, open to the public on a day shoot basis. Common benches not tables. They even have golfcarts to help you get down range but that will cost a little extra. Some people will drive down range when it's cold.

The PBCS Range is $10.00 a day. If you are capable of getting down on the ground and shooting prone do so and get off the wobbly bench, or bring your own. The Volusia County Gun Range runs a open day every Wednesday on their range, check them out. I am thinking seriously about joining this range next year. I was a member at Bradford for 4 years .Bradford is $20.00 a day for out to 300 yards(it isn't quite 300), for non-members. This will also gain you access to the pistol ranges. The 850 requires qualification which will cost you $40.00 to show you are capable of impacting the berm and ajusting your scope properly for various yardages. The cost for non-members for the 850 for the day (9am-5pm) is $40.00 Check out Bradford's site, they have actual day set up for qualifying.

Don't forget Manatee. Located a few miles east of Bradenton in Myakka city. Ranges out to 1K. Pistol, BR, clays and they are set up for some action shooting in what they call area 51.

Manatee is an excellent range. If you live in Florida and have never been, I highly recommend it. Good people, good shooters. Check out their website.
