Open carry sounds good. But in my small town my church is near a bad part of town. The pastor regularly sees thugs stroll by the parsonage with gun in hand. He has 3 children under 8.

It also complicates law enforcement’s job.

Open carry is about as stoopid as it gets. While I don't want the gubermint telling me what to do, I can't imagine why anyone with more than 2 functioning brain cells would want to "advertise".

Me too but its a comprimise on what firearm I can carry. Id like the option.

We had a bat in the high ceiling in the sanctuary at church, Pastor noticed it but said he was afraid to tell the congregation as most carry and he was afraid that we might all shoot holes in the ceiling and roof in an attempt to kill the bat.

My opinion, mine only. Open carry is stupid. Open carry makes you an instant target. Bad guy, good guy, makes no difference as they make you one of the first targets. Those with differing opinions..... I respect your opinion but won't change mine. It's just plain stupid to draw attention to yourself when discretion is sure to be the better option.

Grew up outside of Phoenix. In the 50's it was routine to see the ranchers and farmers with guns on a belt. This was when trucks in high school parking lots routinely had a lever action in the rear window rack...with the windows open and doors unlocked. There was a huge outcry in the 70's when the local governments tried to make them take off their guns before going in the bars after work.

Once the 'great migration' started (ie, Calif residents moving to AZ) things got a lot more liberal. Fewer farms/ranches left and far fewer folks carrying guns. In the 80's there was a lawyer in town who championed carry rights and had a nickel plated revolver in hip holster wherever he went. Don't see many open carry these days but they still have 'constitutional' concealed carry.

PS yes, I think open carry in town is kinda dumb.

Open carry may make offenders look for an easier target. What do I know? If I was looking to rob someone and saw a bunch of people with guns I would look elsewhere.
