Flat based 30 caliper bullets

What is your opinion shooting 30 caliper flat based bullets vs VLD's . . . I understand some perfer the FB's out to 600yds. 165grn.

Flat base bullets often shoot better at short range than boat tails or vld's.Boat tails don't always show their advantage until they get down range.The only way to tell is to try them in your rifle,at the ranges that you expect to shoot at.I shoot vld's in my 600yd rifle,but flat base's in my hunting rifle. Dennis , I use 30 cal Flat Base bullets all the time from 550 yds to 1000yds and have found then to be great .. My 2011 6match grouping agg at 1K stands at 5.706ins (10 shot) with the 10 match at 6.579ins in this season just completed.. If i knew more about which flags to watch then it could be smaller as the Vertical dispersion for all Ten matchs was only 5.390 ins average .. Typically my gun holds better vertical than the other competitors rifles ,i just wish i didn't suck at wind reading as much ..JR..Jeff Rogers..ps .. pic of 1K target

I tried to get the 187 BIBs to shoot before the 2011 IBS 1000 nats, but had no luck.....well.....kinda sorta. I Shot a bunch of 5 shot groups at 600, working up the powder charge along the way....they were all pretty good, but the last group was exceptional......I didn't pay attention to any PSI signs because the bolt lift on this gun is usually the first sign. Anyway......loaded up some more to try at 1K.....the primers either fell out on their own, or all I needed to do was shake them a little to get the primers to fall out. :-[ All I tried was 3 sighters....no group test. I didn't notice any problems, but wasn't going to ruin any more brass to see how they did. Then I just simply ran out of time.

So the answer for me is BT's over FB bullets so far.

I still have hope for them in the 1-11 Krieger HG tube, but I am getting a new 1-9.5 twist tube for my wsm with the hopes of hooking a good load with the new 230 Berger.
