flash hole size

i've have been working on a 6.5 x47l with the small flash holes, i opened them to .063 and used the primer pocket uniformer. necks are turned to .012 and the reamer has a .290 neck.so i thought every thing was right but i was told that the flash holes should be .080. what gives? need to know.......jim

Ignore whomever told you this.

BTW, what's more important than neck thickness is the total neck diameter with a bullet seated.

rstreich, it's a .288 neck on the loaded round. and the chamber has a .290 neck,and i'm running .0015 head space........jim

Personally I let the diameter where it is, just clean up the bur, with a tool from K&M that does NOT touch the diameter)

Do NOT open the holes up to 0.080"!

2thou total clearance on the necks is the tightest I would go...I personally go about 3thou total...not that that is better or worse.

How are you measuring your shoulder bump? Personally, I don't start bumping the shoulders until I get a few cases with a couple three firings on them. That way I can feel more confident that they've formed pretty well to the chamber length.

Seriously, though, take any advice of whoever told you to open the flash holes to 0.080" with a grain of salt.

rstreich, i set my die up with my go gauge,.0015 over it then i use my stub to measure the case length. i didn't open any flash holes up,but i just had to ask.my smallest group was a .150 most are in the ....2s and low .3s with a tube gun.........jim
