Flag pole design

I have another question does anyone have a flag pole design they care to share?

I dont have much money, and I have already made what I think will be great flags but now what to suport them on.I have been looking at photolight and music stands, but the more I think I think I would rather have a spike I can drive into the ground.

The question I have is how do you guys make a base that can be hit with a hammer, to drive into the ground, and how do you make the telesoping adjustment?

What materials are the best to use?

Is there anyother products that are made that can be modified to work?

I think that I want something that is adjustable from 2' to 4', any sujestions one what would be better, or is this right thinking?

Thanks for the information.

Look at the type of soil your range is composed of. Some soils are hard as a rock and you would be much better off with a stand. The guys in the Northeast tend to use stakes. Those in the Southwest stands. Depends on your local geology. Given all the stuff you have to carry around already, why add a hammer or small sledge if you don't have to. My preference would be a stand of some sort with a good wide base.

In this area, the ground is not to bad, My target holder has a three spike think that I can stand on and it goes in the gorund easy. I found a stand that hold the spikes if I wanted to and the thought of a spike sounds like a much better deal.

I'm leaning more towards a stand windflag. Use a center triangle of wood/metal at the ground, 3 or 4 old arrow shafts for legs...nearly flat, and for upright shaft, use arrow shaft for low ones, and snow marker shafts for taller ones...mount your flag/spinners on top...cheap, last forever, and easy to carry..
