Fixed Power BR Scopes

In your experience, what is the best fixed power scope for 300-600yd BR shooting? Also what would be the best Mag to buy? I'm thinking of buying a Weaver T-36. Any experience with these? Also I should say that it's going on a 6BR and I would prefer it be an MOA/MOA scope. I'm not that comfortable with Mils yet. Thanks

If you're sure about fixed power. For 300-600 yds the more power the better
The 45x Leupolds are great. Nothing at all wrong with the weaver T36 tho

Variable power the 10-50 SIII sightron are great for the money

When I started this game, I bought a couple high end FIXED scopes. At my grassy 300 yrd range(benched) they were great, when I was somewhere else, it ALLWAYS seemed that Mirage came into play, sold the fixed and got some nice Variables that I can power down when the ''wiggly'' stuff shows up

Ty,
I do not compete (or shoot 600 yds) but have both the Leupold 35X Competition scope and three T-36's. And I do have friends who compete who have the 45X and have shot their rifles. My eyes aren't what they once were, BUT I can tell you the biggest difference I've noted over the years is that the Leupolds have better clarity and if you are seriously shooting for competition in any caliber, you need the best clarity possible, no matter the make of scope you choose. Of course, expense is often the issue which is why I have more Weavers than Leupolds. Having competed in the past in Benchrest 100 yds, the Leupold aided me n winning some of those competitions. But I do have a T-36 on my 6mmbr and I can still muster 5 shots groups in the low 2's (and even a few high 1's )when I do my part.

I would without a doubt recommend the new Weaver 46 power scope it has the best side parallax adj. i ever had and it's 30mm body lots of adjustment for windage and elevation and it is clear and bright and it flat shoots. i had both and it is superior to the 45power you had mentioned plus it had longer eye relief……. jim

For proper perspective, I'm 70 years old and have had intraocular lens replacements to correct for cataracts - fantastic improvement. I have always found higher power to be helpful particularly for benchrest competition. Currently I use a March 60x for over 300 yards and a March 50x up to 300 yards both have fine crosshair reticles and are on the barreled actions for my unlimited heavy gun. I have been experimenting this year with a March 36-55x EP Zoom on my HV gun this has the LR2 reticle with fine crosshairs and 1/16 minute dot. Frankly it stays at 55x except in extreme mirage conditions.

I have used a range of scopes in my 53 years including Weaver T-36 before the March became available. Currently I have T-36s on 5 rifles all with fine crosshairs. I've only had one T-36 show a slight POI shift due to recoil on a light 6br and that one has been demoted to and works great on a 22 rim fire rifle. I did use a T-36 in 1000 yard match but felt higher power was needed which led to my getting the March scopes.

The new Weaver 46 power I have herd is a really nice piece good glass , was told it was as bright and clear as the Leupold

You don't need a lot of power to shoot 1000 yards. 50% of the light guns wear a 8.5x25 Leupold longrange target because of making weight. I have never seen groups get smaller with the same gun by putting higher power scope on it. Yes you can see a little better but it doesn't help shoot smaller groups. I like a high power variable like an 8x32 or 12x42. It is nice to have the power if needed but be able to turn down when the mirage gets bad. Most of the time I turn down to around 25 to 28 because of mirage. For 600 yard the mirage is probably not as bad as 1000. When I tested at 600 the mirage didn't seem as bad as when I moved out to the 1000 yard targets. If you are budget minded check out the 8x32 or 10x50 Sightron S111. They are really good glass and compare pretty close to my Nightforce Competition. Matt

I did use a Weaver 46 at 100 to 1000 Great scope……………. and considerably brighter than a Leupold ……... jim

Why is it there are only two retailers selling the Weaver 46 power? It has been a little while and still no place to peruse specs (not on Weaver site). Any idea on eye relief or weight?

Killough Shooting Sports has them you could check with them, maybe they can get you some spec's.

I'm gonna try to find the T46 but if I can't get one then I'm gonna go with the T36. My local shop has a few of them for just over $350. I've been wanting one for a few years now but I never got around to it. I'm using a Vortex PST FFP and a Burris XTR-II now and can say for certain that my Burris Blows Vortex Away!!!

I think Bruno shooting supply has them or they did. They are a 30mm tube and 46mm obj. eye relief is a lot longer than the old 36 power Weaver or the Leupold comp. weight is around 22oz. comes with screw on caps and a sun shade and different set of knobs……….. they run around 800…… jim

That new Weaver looks nice. I wish they would have went with a 30mm tube on the 24x and 36x models.

I'll be shopping for a target scope for that new Dasher build. Really like the 8-32 models.

Stocks of the T-36 are being sold out as the new Weaver offerings become available. For what it is worth I shoot both the Weaver t-36 and the Leupold 45x45 scopes. If I could replace all the scopes on what I shoot centerfire, I would do it with the 45x45 Leupold. HOWEVER, we are talking about a great difference in price between the two. I have seen posts and talked to a few people who have used the new Weaver and they all like it except for the fact that it is a little heavier then the other BR scopes--this makes a difference to some folks-- to some others, who do not have to worry about weight classes, it will not. As far as I have seen-- the new Weaver is less expensive than the Leupold. Good things are being said about all else with it. Which one has the better reputation for quality and support? I dunno...........

I had both the Leupold 45 and the Weaver 46, The Weaver is heaver and brighter, longer eye relief, a lot better side parallax adj. and it comes with a sun shade. The only thing the the Weaver doesn't come with, is the guarantee that it doesn't need a ride on the brown truck any time soon……… LOL… jim

got a few blokes at the club are over their fixed scopes, because when the mirage comes in in the summer months they cant see but they are great when there isnt a mirage

I guess i'm different i prefer to see the mirage, it's still there even if you reduce the power……… jim

+1 Since I've learned to read the mirage I'm much better at shooting in wind particularly if it is rapidly changing speed and direction. Also, when the mirage is very bad, the big problem is finding the true position of the target which works better for me with high magnification.
