Fixed parallax scope and long range shooting, anybody tried this??

Hi guys, looking for some advice really regarding the Bushnell Elite 3200 10x40 Tactical, I saw it in the shop today and I was impressed with its quality and price. Has anybody had a crack at this scope or know anybody who has?
I don’t have a lot of disposable funds at the moment but I need something to mount on my Remington 700 SPS in .223, I just got a thumbhole laminate stock for it (bedding video to follow) and want to get something decent glass wise without breaking the bank, so......

How is a fixed parallax scope going to fair accuracy wise at long range? (for a .223) I'll be shooting targets at a max range of just over 600yds, but mostly 400 and under when varmint hunting.

I've never used a fixed parallax scope for long range before, the only one I have is mounted to my rimfire. So can most of the limitations be overcome by being more diligent with regards a consistent cheek weld? I'm thinking it could but if anybody has experience in this field I'd appreciate some advice.

Thanks all

Phil

I've not used one for long range. But, if you pull your eye away from the scope so theres that black ring around what you see. This will reduce the parrallex. It may not be enough to completly eliminate but it's worth a shot.

US Marine Scout\Snipers used a fixed power 10x scope with no paralex adjustment for a long time on there M40A1 rifles, and even continued to use them on there A3's until all the S&B 3-12 replaced them.

Believe it or not Barrett usesthis same scope for a promotion deal with one of their distributors and as luck goes I was one of the lucky buyers. New, factory mounted in Barrett rings and bore sighted (per the attached tag) at mounting it was to say the least one of the biggest pieces of crap I've ever seen on a rifle. We checked the bore sighting upon installing the scope on the rail and noticed the rings didn't line up with the slots in the rail, Big Red Flag flys as the 3 of us started laughing. After cracking the rings loose we started over, checked sight picture, eye relief and even used the torque settings Barrett supplied with the rings and locked them down. Now the funniest part, scope was showing a 2 o'clock hold, turned the windage adjustment and the reticle moved diagonaly, after I saw this I tried the elevation knob and again the reticle moved diagonaly at first them seemed to jump around with each full moa, up, down left...etc....
just pure junk, made in China!

I sent the scope to the Busnell address listed on the ownership card, they sent a new scope, it wasn't any better, reticle was off about 10 degress to the left of plumb and it did not track for beans.

I used the scope for target practice at the "shooting shack" to put it out of my misery......no more China scope on "American" made iron!

Buy a used Leupold 3-10x40 or 50 with a mil dot, they sell on ebay and GunBroker in the $250-$300 range.

If you're on a tight budget, why not go with one of SWFA's SS 10x or 16x scopes? At least they're made in Japan instead of China, and have a pretty good reputation. I've owned two of the fixed power 16x models, and really had good luck with them. Last time I checked, they were still priced at $299, and they do have parallex adjustment. They're not the brightest scopes on the market, but do have a bunch of internal adjustment, are heavy & well-built. Never had an issue with either of mine, and used them to shoot out to 1000yds.
