Fixed 42x nightforce vs 12-42 BR

Looking to step up my scope power for informal benchrest shooting at my local range. I have a 8.5x25 leupold now. And was wondering if anyone had first hand comparison of the two nightforce scopes I have narrowed my choice down to.

1. Nightforce fixed 42x44
2. Nightforce 12-42x56 Benchrest

* I shoot between 100 and 600 yards.
* the humidity is high where I live.
Thanks for any input.

What Donovan says. It's a no brainer if weight makes a difference go with the 42X44. Both scopes are about as accurate as they get. The variable is going to allow turning down the power on days you cant see the target at 42X!

Weight is not a problem. Kinda a run what you bring event. Im new to the higher magnification world.
Lots of choices it can be overwhelming.
Thanks for the input.

The only bad thing about the 12-42 vs the straight 42 is eye relief. I have two 12-42's and got clocked a number of times in the only short range match that I shot with it. I have dozens of benchrest scopes and I shoot free recoil and that's the only scope that I have gotten clocked with. Also the glass in the Comp 42 is much better, not a lot but noticeable with my eyesight.

I agree. Mirage is mirage. Turning down the power doesn't magically make it disappear. Your choice is a tiny blur or a big blur. I'd rather fight through a big blur. Good luck!
I agree with you 100% Kyle. A good shooter can read the mirage and make it work for him, not against him.
