Fitting a barrel

My next project is to fit a new never fired all ready chambered and threaded barrel to a Hall action . This will be my third barreling job, and my first two were on Savage actions, and I'm very happy with both of them. But I have never done a coned barrel, any advice ?? NO I'm not going to have someone else do it .

If it is already chambered and threaded all you need to do is unscrew the old and screw on the new and check headspace.

I stacked up tape on the end of the bolt lugs and it is hard to close with about .044" of tape on it . So I have to set the shoulder back.

You didn't say what cartridge the barrel was chambered for. If it's for a standard cartridge and you set the barrel shoulder back, say .040",.044 minus .040 = .004" clearance), you will need a chamber reamer and headspace gauge to adjust the chamber depth. If it's a wildcat where you will make brass to fit the chamber, setting back .040" will probably not affect anything. Also, if your barrel is one that is short chambered it will require cutting it to final depth and headspacing with a gauge and/or cartridge cases. Lots of variables involved here and a lot more info needed.

Here is what I come up with . This is for barreling a Hall action that is glued in the stock . Tool #1 measures the action from the receives face to the bolt face,TOOL#2 measures tool#1 and the barrel tenon that is still in the lathe.
