NICE!

Your hooked now. That 243 sure made a mess out of her. I can only imagine the mess if you'd caught shoulder!

What brand call were you using?

Mr.Mister, For the howler Im using a Johnny Stewart Dog Howler, than I have a Johnny Stewart Rabbit distress call with a little rubber bump you can lightly bite down on to change pitch. I also use a little green Crit-R-Call thats a higher pitched distress call. I used to use a Talley HO witch I really liked, it was small good sound variation, I could use the Talley Ho to make all the sounds my current two distress calls make but I lost it. I also am lookin to get a new howler cuz I really dont like this one. Can you recommend a howler you like? I was thinking about the Red Desert howler that Randy Anderson uses.

bkmilw,

I use custom made calls but before someone thinks I'm a "call snob" I can tell you I pay just a little bit more money than calls you'll get at Cabela's or other sporting goods shops.

I get most of my calls from www.predatormasters.com in the Custom Call section.

The average call is $30-$35 for open and closed reeds and the skys the limit for a really nice howler. I'd say the average howler there is $50-$65 but you get what you pay for.

You can howl with a good open reed as well and kill two birds with one call!

The tone boards are custom made, each unit is individually tuned to what you want, and the materials are second to none!

If you like I can talk to some of my call making friends and have something made to your specs. If you want to do that just let me know.

I prefer enclosed reed calls myself but I don't live in snow. Closed reeds tend to clog up in freezing conditions.

Plus 1 on the custom calls from the PM call makers.

Great guys on there & WELL worth the small extra cost. Original sound is much better than the same 'ol productions as well.

Beware, the calls are addictive. You'll have a few lanyard fulls of neat calls if your not carefull.
