First time neck turning 6ppc

My rifle is a older shilen barreled .262 neck. I have no print, shilen can't even find it in their records. I was going for a .260 loaded neck, but ended up at .259. I didn't think it cut that deep into the shoulder when I was doing it, but maybe I screwed up. Yeah, the chamfer on that one is a little much, oh well. I trimmed them to 1.490, it's alpha brass btw.

Recently turned for a .262 neck and went to .0085 x 2 + .243 = .260 loaded neck diameter.

Was wondering about the OP and what he ND he turned for.

Years ago I was told that turning down onto the shoulder slightly will reduce the odds of getting a donut.
Seemed to work out but, as mentioned above, I didn't go down that far on the shoulder.
May I ask what your target thickness was for the neck? Turning for a .262 neck?

When I shot short range everyone shot the .262 ND chamber. I had never turned necks before then so it was uncharted territory for me. I was told to buy two neck turners and set one to take off a little over half the amount and then set the second to do the final cut. I learned a lot about neck turning (I thought) but later found I had only scratched the surface in knowledge. Thanks to a mentor who has done more neck turning than anyone else I have ever known I have learned a lot more. Still learn every time I do the task.
.259 for a .262 isn't a bad thing. In fact, I would rather have at least .003 clearance in the chamber these days. One thing I have learned is to use a no-turn reamer whenever possible.

I have though about having the barrel shortened and rechambered for no turn neck. It's a 27" straight 1.25, it's a bit nose heavy.

Agree. It looks like 10X the amount of i.e. chamfer I do. A thin sharp edge is a stress concentrator. It promotes crack initiation.

It's a 30° cutter

Guessing you used a 40 or 50 degree cutter? What thickness did you turn them to? Looks good to me but I’m trying to learn myself.

I got 500 pieces of 30-06 brass for .25 cents a piece when SSA as sold to Nosler. two different orders. one batch was the same weight as Lapua brass and the other Hornady brass. Neck turned them all the same, about half way or more down the shoulder. It was all new brass and they were all short. so none were trimmed. So the shoulder cut line was all over the place because they were not all the same length. For my .337" chamber. Only annealed after the 3rd firing. Never had a split case. Still shooting them now.

Nothing, if you are happy we are happy. Twist them in a scotchbrite and it will all blend.

That or 0000 steel wool works nicely

Thats why I use a Forster, don't need any other tool or anything fancier
Although there are options that will cost you much more money to accomplish the same thing.
The Forster Cutter is Radiused and closely matches the radius of the Neck/Shoulder Junction
so when you turn into the shoulder slightly, it's already blended
