Finally took the boy out shooting with the new Rem .223 I fitted for him. I have to say I was more than impressed with how it shot. I put 5 rounds threw it. Three rounds to get it on target for him, then made some scope adjustments and then two more. The three shot group was about 2-2.5" and the two shot group was 1-1.5". This was shooting off a bipod and rear bag in the prone position at 600 yds (his f-class gun). The 3 shot group is what I shot, the other pics are the boys 5 shot groups. You may be able to see in his pics, the two shot group of mine, one shot is threw the "1" in the 10 on, the other is right above it. There are covered with the ripped pasters. Factory gun that I pillar bedded with devcon and cut the stock to fit my him. I have a hard time shooting it because it is to short, probaly a good thing for him. Load was Lapua brass, 25.2grs Varget, Fed 205m, Berger 64gr at about 3000 fps out of 1:12. Like I say.... Very Impressed.
Enjoy
Scott

Scott: My son competes in 600 yd. F-Class matches (in Florida), with his Hart barreled Savage, 1-7 twist using the 80 gr. Sierra MatchKings with 24.5 grs. of Varget. He's been very successful with that combination, in F/TR class. They can be made to shoot.

I have a Savage 12 LRPV in 223 with a factory 1:7 twist barrel that has been bedded, rechambered, recrowned and lapped. It shoots very well out to 1000 yards with Berger 75 gr VLD's and 25 grains of H4895 in a Lapua case with Wolf Small Rifle Mag primers.

It is shooting around 1/2 MOA at 600 yards. Velocity is 2970 with very low extreme spreads. I am gong to try some IMR 8208 xbr this coming week and see what happens. I have used this new powder in my 6mmBR and it seems just a bit too fast for it although the groups have been excellant and velocities on par with VARGET with ES's of 6 or less.

Forgot to mention that this was the second time my son shot this gun and he's 9. I'm pretty sure he's hooked on the long range game also.

9? WOW!!! He has some real talent. I used to teach shooting sports to 11-14 year olds in the Boy Scouts, I didn't see anything like that come through.

Outstanding Job! I use a Savage Mod 12 .223 for F Class also. My load is 25.5 RL15, RP 7 1/2 Primers with a 75 Grain Hornady BTHP (Moly). The vel average was 2950. A fun rifle to shoot and to learn from.
