First Sighting of the PA 2022 Season

The first sighting and subsequent killing of Soybeanus Digestus occurred this weekend in NE PA. The ground grizzly was trying to cross Route 6 in Bradford county before falling victim to Vehicular Homicide.

The unknown driver of the vehicle was seemingly unphased by the incident and drove off without even tapping his brakes.

Wow those are some FAT boys for sure! Well fed indeed.
Our "spring" at 4,000' elevation comes a bit later, so our boys aren't out just yet, but when they do emerge, don't think I've ever seen any that plump!

You could get by with 2 MOA rifle for those guys!

They're coming off a soybean feasted hibernation which was behind that hedgerow. And, it was harvested late last year. Now they're hungry and munching what they can find on my property.

Saw my first one two days ago in Centerville Pennsylvania in Crawford County. Chuck’s are pretty scarce in these parts anymore. I work for a propane company here in Centerville and spend every day driving throughout north western Pennsylvania in prime farmland and there will be numerous days go by without seeing a woodchuck live or dead on the road. Now something ain’t right with that picture. On a good night no more than 10 years ago here in the Centerville area it was fairly easy to shoot 20 in an evening in a couple hours after work. Some exceptional evenings I have hit into the 30 range. Right now I don’t waste my time on it more than once or twice during the summer. Hopefully things will rebound.
