Well I got my gun together and started my barrel break in. I was extremely happy to see my very first 5 shot group @100 was .400, with an undeveloped load. 700SA Douglas 26" 1-14" twist,.272 no-turn, 65V-max with 28.5g of H322. I'm thinking it will shoot even tighter groups when I get as good as the gun can shoot. Thanks to all ya that have given pointers along the way!

Glad to hear you're having success. Try some Berger Bullets and you may find the groups tightening up even more. But that's a great start.

I had one of my buddies verify my above mentioned group and he came up with .370". Now I'm wondering if anyone has had any success with the Barnes varmint grenades in their BR. Like em hate em?

I hate to beat a wet horse to death but I have never had any luck with accuracy with Barnes bullets. I have tried from .223 to .308 and all in between almost to no avail. I read something on their website one time that said to seat the bullets .050 off the lands but that did nothing to help either. So, I just give up even trying. Bill

i dont know about the 6mm varment granades but as an AR shooter my rifle would not cycle the little 36gr. 223 ammo. but as to the accuracy of barnes bullets, i shoot 120gr. tsx in my stock 280 rem ruger M77MKII and ive shot many .5" groups at 100yrds seated .3 off the lands. No thats no bench rest accuracy but they are designed to be hunting bullets where .5' to 1' at 100yrds is as good as most people need.

7stwhunter, absolutely great accuracy for hunting. Maybe I just expect more that I should from that bullet. But, I have not been able to obtain even those numbers with the Barnes bullets and then swap over to Nosler, Sierra, Berger, Hornady and get sub one-half inch groups fairly easy. Of course not every group but a large portion of the percentages. Just my opinion. Bill

I had the same kind of excitement the first time I fired my 6BR. My first thought after firing the second round was "Did I miss the whole damn target??!?!?" No, second shot in the first hole !!! WOOOO !!!!

You guys are making it hard to refrain from this caliber. Gonna make me go off the deep end here and build a rifle. Bill

Guys that is next on my list. I can't decide to go ahead and build or wait on Savage. Ya'll want to give me some reasons why I should do either? I'm all ears. Thanks, Bill

Try some AA2230 with those same 65's, also 58's and 55's. You won't believe how fast and accurate that cartridge can be.
