First Savage build 6BR. Pic of rifle added

A friend of mine sent me in the direction of this site a year or so ago. Ive been taking in as much info as I can ever since. It always seemed out of reach for me to ever have a rifle capable of 1/4" or less groups on a consistant basis. I thought that was only with a full custom built rig. I didnt ever expect to have several thousand dollars to spend on a rifle with my income level.

Then my friend filled me in on the world of a Savage. Im hooked.
This is my first build. It started out with a pawn shop action, rifle Basix2 trigger, McGowen prefit SS bull contour barrel in 6BR 1-12 twist, Boyds varmint stock. pillar bedded my self
All in Im at $880.00 and have a rifle that can well out shoot my abilities.

I just wanted to thank everyone who contributes their knowledge on this site to the rest of us

Thanks
Tim

Re: First Savage build 6BR

Good shooting. My first Savage build has yet to really be put on paper. Savage SA stagger feed accutrigger, Douglas 1-9" 284 Shehane tight neck 30 inch. Getting a Richard's Microfit ready for it now. I had $700 in it with the supplied bases and a set of Warne 30mm rings. Hogged out the factory tupperware and put 40 rounds through it on a 20mph day. 300 yards off of the bipod and sand bag, prone was smaller than a silver dollar.

If you're going to put pics of the target in a "Savage build" thread...

you better put in pics of the rifle, too!

Re: First Savage build 6BR

Nice group sir! ;)

I've built 2 rifles off of the Savage 10 and Savage 116 actions. The first for hunting in a 6.5 Rem Mag and the other for varminting in a 20 VarTarg. Both are excellent shooters for their intended uses. the 6.5 is a 1/4 MOA 3 shot group rifle, and the 20 VT is a 1/4 MOA 5 shot group rifle.
Both of them ALSO wear McGowen stainless barrels. Not the pre-fits though. Both were chambered from blanks.

Also just got done building a 6.5X47 Lapua on the Savage Benchrest action. But it has a Krieger barrel. Hard to beat the accuracy you get from a Savage for what they cost. As you can clearly see...:)

Good Job!
