Hi All,
spent this past weekend taking my nephew on his first hunting trip for fallow deer. It was also the first hunting trip for my 6.5x47 Lapua (trued Rem700 ADL, 22" Trueflight 1 in 8, standard stock, Busnell 3200 3x9). Using 120gr sierra 120gr Prohunter projectiles, CCI450, 38.4gr ADI2208 (Varget).
Weather wasn't pleasent (Forecast 70 to 100kph winds, Rain - but eased in the afternoon), ground was very slippery, and deer weren't co-operating at first. We hunt on foot, and stalk in on the deer. My nephew eventually got an opportunity for a 100m offhand shot and put his first deer on the ground. Not bad for his first time out after a deer.
I managed to shoot another 2 deer with the new rifle too. And was very happy with the performance of the Prohunter 120 gr projectiles ( 1 headshot, 1 neck shot). One of the deer I shot, was wounded, and in very poor condition (infection/ wound). It does annoy me that some hunters don't take enough time to place their shots or shoot at running animals, when there is no need. Then to not take the time to find the wounded animal, its not right.
Anyway, I'm happy with and looking forward to taking the rifle hunting again, and doing some more load development.
cheers
