Saw this small coyote while groundhog hunting with a buddy of mine over the weekend. We had seen this one along with another run out of a field as we pulled in. We set up on a hilltop to see if maybe they would re-appear. Sure enough, after about 20 minutes or so, this one came walking out of the other side of a corn field and began milling around in a bean field. I ranged him at 450yds, dialed up 5.5MOA on the scope, and let him have it with the 243 Ackley. He was quartered away pretty sharp but I hit him right in the crease behind his left shoulder which made for a sizeable chest exit. We have a fair amount of coyotes in south/central Va but this was the first one that I had gotten more than a glimpse of. Most everything here is planted pines and the crop fields have just enough roll to them to keep you from seeing very far but not enough to give you many good vantage points. Not a long range kill by western standards, but it sure made our afternoon.
