I just finished my first build here recently at least the first step in it. I took my 700SA in 223 and traded bolts with someone purchased a 308 barrel on here and my local smith let me use his machines to true my receiver and head-space the barrel. I dropped it into the original hogue stock and borrowed my sightron off of my 22lr and It shot half inch with factory ammo. It still is not bedded but I have a very nice laminated stock that I am in letting and bedding for this rifle so for just trying it out was amazing. I would have used a custom action but already had a long action 700 and got a good deal on the SA 700 so now I have a set.
Costs for this project.
I cleaned over 30 guns and helped with many other projects at my smiths shop before he let me use the machines with his help. This was over a period of about 7 months.
280 dollars for 700SA in 223.
Traded bolt for standard bolt straight across thanks to a very nice gentlemen on this forum.
Purchased laminated stock for 100 dollars on gunbroker. Still not installed on rifle.
20 for weaver 1913 base 1 peice
burris rings with full set of inserts 10 bucks at a fishing store that also sold me the sightron for 300.
Purchased 308 20 inch barrel on this forum for 75
Now the fun part starts! Best of all it uses half the powder and bullets are half the price for my 300 winmag.
