First 6.5mm Creedmoor build

Hi, all-
My first post here- I'm building my first larger cal rifle after a couple of accurate AR's- I'm getting a Savage Single Shot Target action tweaked/tuned by Sharp Shooter's Supply, and a Brux barrel in 6.5mm Creedmoor from them also.
While I'm not yet a dedicated Benchrest shooter- yet- *s* I am building this rifle for whatever new challenges may await me in retirement next year up in Maine! Hoping to have enough land where I can walk out my back door and tweak & tune. I've chosen a 28" barrel in their target taper, which is 1" at the muzzle, in a 1-8 twist.
Is this a good choice for length/twist/weight in this caliber? Obviously I'm not concerned with weight- it's not going to be a brush gun! ;D
I'm just wondering if I should have them shorten the barrel to something like 26"...

Advice would be appreciated!
Thanks=
Wes

Hi Wes and welcome,
In my opinion for what it is worth, I would say NO.
The reason I say this is when the Creedmoor came out in 2008 or 09 can't remember exactly the factory target production rifles from Ruger who were in collaboration with Hornady who did all the research and found the best minimum length to take full advantage was 28".
Now I am not saying that shorter is not OK, because others have done it in hunting rifles and it works fine, dead animals don't know the difference of a couple of hundred feet. Better bullet selection is far more important, but what I am trying to say is for target shooting the longer barrel is important. :)

Hi, Shanghi-
Thanks for the welcome- and the advice! That is exactly what I was looking for, as this gun will be strictly target shooting period. Range- negotiable, level of competition- negotiable, but purpose- only killing paper!

I would not touch it, 28" 8 twist will be just right.

same here!!! i've got a encore rifle, 16 1/4" mgm barrel, with a 6.5 creedmoor... it shoots real good. wait till you get it

28" length is just perfect for what you want to do. That is the length that the Savage Professional Team shoots on their 6.5 Creedmoor's if something was better they would be using it.
