First 22rf benchrest build

I'm having a rifle built by Killough/Gorham, it's built on a Stiller 2500x with a Shillen .850 rachet rifled barrel on a McMillan straightline edge stock with a Bix&Andy trigger and a Harrels tuner, I'm planning on it weighing around 10.5 lbs with a 36x Weaver.
Im going to use it for ARA matches and IR50/50.
I should have it in about a month maybe two depends on the stock.
This is my first RF benchrest gun anything I should have done differently.
Also this is my first tuner is there any good literature or web site explaining how to adjust one thanks.

There is a lot of opinions on the interweb about tuners.. from what i have gathered.. a lot of it is just Bovine Scatology!

Try Rimfire Central, they have a topic on BR rimfire. I have not seen a rimfire BR gun on the
line without a tuner. My gun came to me tuned so I have not messed with it much. When I
run out of my current lot of RWS R-50 ammo I will probably have to make some adjustments
to get it to shoot well. Ammo is the variable I see as finding the right set up. Some shoot Lapua,
some Ely and some RWS, only your gun will know what is best.

Well you apparantly have'nt gathered much because if you go to a sanctioned match in virtually any rimfire discipline, anyplace in the USA, you'd be hard pressed to find a rifle without a tuner. Perhaps you might preface any response about match rifles by indicating whether you've actually seen/shot one.

Rich, that said what you went with sounds like a solid start. Follow it up ith some attention to testing some ammo and, you're off.

I am not talking about that.. apparently you miss took what i was trying to say.. i was not in any way inferring to not having a tuner.. i am talking about how to use it and set it to that window.. there are a lot of opinions about how to use one.. and some of those are bovine scatology.. that is what i am getting too.. sorry for your confusion!

You made a good choice to start with vs dumping money into czs HRs Annie's 1022s and so forth spending $200 -$700 at a time on upgrades, and still have a rifle that won't compeate. Now you can focus on wind flags and ammo. All the rifles mentioned above are great, but they will bleed you out of patients and money trying to make them compeate with the big boys.

Rich, standard empirical method vs PRX method, which went through the typical stages of a paradigm shift. Seymour

I would suggest since Dan still has the rifle yet have them tune it for you before it leaves killough. Trust me it is the way to go. You can try the Purdy Perscription and that will get you close. And if you want a better start have them run it thru the Eley test chamber as well. Next is getting a lot of trigger time.

I understood this post just fine, and as you meant for it to be read. There is a lot of misinformation out there relating to tuners and how to use them. The best advice I can offer in regard to tuner testing is, be very, very methodical and assume everything you read on the internet is wrong until you are able to prove it otherwise, to your own satisfaction. --Mike Ezell
