Fireforming

I tried to look this one up before asking this question.
Can 25 Creedmoor brass be necked up with a mandrel and fireformed in a 6.5 Creedmoor?

The reason I ask is because I ordered 100 pcs of Lapua brass from a reputable supplier
back in January but finally opened the factory sealed box yesterday only to figure out that it is 25 Creedmoor. The crazy part is that its not even Lapua brass. Its Peterson. I contacted the supplier and someone is supposed to get back with me. While that is all well and good. They have no 6.5 creedmoor brass in stock to speak of so if I can ne k it up I will probably just keep it.

Necking UP does something to the case neck. Exactly at the neck / shoulder junction, you will see a "bump" or "fold" in the brass, once necked up.. This "bump", if not turned off, will magically disappear as soon as the trigger is pulled. However, what happens to it is that it goes INSIDE the case neck at the juncture of the shoulder, thus creating a donut right there. If you do not want that to happen, that bump needs to be turned off with a neck turner. My suggestion is that since you are asking this question, you probably do not have a neck turner. Send the brass off to DJs Brass Service (he is a sponsor on here) he will do an excellent job for you.

Thank you ShootDots. Depending on what supplier has to say and what action follows I might just have to get in touch with DJ.

Yes. The thickness of the neck brass will be thinner and you might have to adjust it's sizing for enough grip on the bullet to prevent self seating if you seat well into the lands. Also, if your chamber's neck clearance over a loaded neck is excessive, you might consider annealing often as neck brass will get worked a bit.
