fireforming military brass

I have a good suply of new lake city brass. .Should I fireform it in my 223 ai or should I go with premium brass?

FWIW, I recieved alot of 1x LC (primers still crimped), I used a home made sizing lube that dried too fast and the shoulders got "pulled"(?) for lack of a better term, left some marks on the shoulders that looked like reverse hydrolic.
Those small marks came out with my first firing,,,so, fire forming to AI ?? Why not ? Try a few and see how well they form. They are a good solid brass case, smaller capacity = heavy brass.

I use a lot of lake city and any other military brass I find in my .222, and it all started life as 5.56 and they push back just fine. I see no reason why they won't go the other way. You may want to anneal after, as it is worked a bit in the process. But it's probably not 100% necessary.

I anneal after pushing the shoulder back, as the shoulder becomes part of the neck. So it gets worked a bit to say the least.

Lake City is good brass. Most things Mil-Spec are built well, and brass is no different.

Do a search on using that LC brass and you will find that it has the same capacity as the rest of the 5.56 and .223 Rem cases .

These cases would make excellent .223 Ackley brass .
