Fire forming bullets for 30 BR

Am new to 30BR (having shot 6PPC in the late 80's) and need some help/information... (Or did I get back into this at the wrong time?)

Due to the limited supplies these days, does anyone have some suggestions as to a bullet to use when fire forming new 30 BR brass?

I have new Lapua cases all prepped and ready. It would be completely foolish to waste match bullets (BIB, 10X) for this process.

Suggestions, comments, thoughts, appreciated.
Thanks.

I am starting to wonder if the "squarer" the bullet is....the better it shoots at short range. Think 30 caliber wadcutter.....hmmmmm.

Pulling bullets from 30 Carbine. Usually they wind up laying around in a box but why not?

You may want to try a cheap hunting bullet. Some of them may shoot very well. 30carb might not work. Some of them are .3075".

I use either the 110 V-Max or 110 Sierra HP, but with the components crunch it may be tough to find these. They have worked very well for me and are surprisingly accurate.

there are some speer 110's on this forum for sale right now.... I actually thought about getting them for my black out. Fun plinking bullets.

Try those TNTs. They are nice to have around. Never can tell when you'll want to snipe a doe off the back porch with your BR. 8)

Thank you all for your help/suggestions.
I managed to locate a few Sierra 110's at a local Cabela's!
Had to get down on my hands and knees to find them hidden on a very low shelf.

Hopefully for all of our sake that supplies will become more and more available.

I use 110 to 130 grain cast bullets to FF my 30 BR. I've found that the really slow twist rate with properly sized and lubed cast bullets shoot pretty darn well for FF loads. I even shot our VFS match this last weekend at my local range with a group buy 125 grain "Gas Checked 30 Carbine" bullets and placed in the top 5. Would have been 2nd, but I missed a wind switch or overheld and shot 1 into the 9 ring on my last relay. Either way, I had alot of fun and was impressed with my home cast projectiles.

30 BR is without a doubt the most forgiving ctg I've ever loaded for. Just about any jacketed bullet in the 100-120 grain range, and any cast bullet from 110-130 grains shoots great out of my tube. Home built on a savage target action, I couldn't be happier with mine.

If you don't want to go the el-cheapo cast route, 110 gr 30 carbine bullets that measure at least .308 (many do not) will work fine, and are pretty cheap where you can find them.

The amount of 'fire-forming' that actually happens when forming this case is minimal. Get some good bullets, get to the range, and get shooting. Quit wasting time trying to find 'cheap' bullets, get out and shoot. I used those first fire-forming shots to practice bench technique and do initial load development so they were less 'wasted' using good bullets than they would have been with 'cheap' bullets.
