Finished Work — Retirement Thoughts

I retired at 57, when people would ask me how I liked being retired I would tell them that every day was Saturday. Pissed off a few folks so I decided to REALLY piss off other folks so I started replying that EVERY DAY WAS MONDAY! Needless to say...it worked!
I retired about a month before my 58th birthday. When I get asked how I like it I tell them I have 6 saturdays and a Sunday every week! I don’t care if they don’t like it…. :)

I came up with a Question for those people young and working? I always ask them got a job? YEH go to work every day? YEH Like your job? YEH Then Do me a favor sure what do you want? Just keep working and paying into Social Security I love spending that money That gets them all fired up really quick!!!

I'm 60 years old. I retired at 50.
I've worked as a technical manager at a tannery all my life, but I've always had a knack for mechanics. When I retired, I bought a lathe and began customizing my own rifles, and then those of friends, with relative success.
I participate in Fclass, TR and Open categories and frequently informal metal shooting competitions with friends. (I don't know the correct term in English).
Furthermore, thanks to Mr. Ulrich, I have even less time to rest and keep busy producing bullets for myself and some friends... and l loving this

Well I retired yesterday. Now there's lots of time for hunting and shooting.
I retired at 60. I do not miss one thing about work. For me, I had been in a "work" routine for 40+ years. A routine is hard to break. I had to find myself a new routine that didn't involve work. I would suggest that you find a new routine and keep yourself busy.
Sitting around and not doing not much of anything will take a toll on you sooner or later.

I've been retired for 25 years, I still highly recommend it!! We all age differently and at different rates. If I need to give up something, I add something I have interest in and can do. It is now 'my time', I'm in charge. Learning, reading and improving the mind is still a very important activity. We have important things to share, "when the old man dies, the library closes". Share your memories with the local library or museum, do a 'taped interview'. Many things to do, make YOUR retirement what YOU would like it to be.
Fill your pockets with memories, not wishes. ENJOY
"I'm not a product of my circumstances, I'm a product of my decisions" George Washington.

To me it’s simple to an extent.
Are you retiring voluntarily or has your retirement been forced on you due to health or your company forced you to?
There’s a world of difference.
For me, I sold my business after 29 years and moved to a totally different environment. That lasted 3 months. I was disgusted and horrified that no one cared or needed me. So I got a job working for a great company. They liked me, I liked them, the pay was great and I drove 5 miles to work. No problem not being the boss. Everything was nearly perfect. Then I had stroke. Ended everything forever. That’s what I mean by having a choice or not.

Congratulations,
I worked running my own security business 24-7 for 45 years and retired a couple of years ago at 75. Enjoying every minute of what time is left. At home I have a 300 yd range in my yard so it’s shoot reload and repeat. Building M14 type rifles is another of my passions. Love every minute of it. Mowing my range is a hoot, my moments of meditation. Gets so hectic with hobbies we have to take some time for relaxation. Been on Kauai for a week now and 1 week left of vacation from retardation. Wife and I went on a tubing adventure a couple of days ago, 2.5 miles through tunnels and open channels. Been coming here for 25 years but always worried about clients during my years of business. Now , no worries about that phone call from someone in trouble so all is wonderful. Whatta Hobby!

I'm 70 now and still working, but I have my own photography business. I still have clients who like my work and I enjoy working with. It's nice, though, to not have to take every job that comes along. After 40 years in the game, I still really like it.

I never made it out of HS,joined my dad in the building business at 16. Put 4 sons and wife through college,3 with PhD's,one with a master's and the last with a BA.

Went where I wanted, did what I wanted.... just keep bringing that "cake" home. Once they all got degreed up,I retired. That lasted maybe 6 months? Got bored went back to making bank. Didn't need the money, needed the excitement. Bought a bunch of equipment, retired again. That lasted about a year then got bored again.

Guess I'm retired now but.... not really. When you work for yourself for 40+ years doing what you love.... then retire, and do what you love? What's the difference?

But in anycase... congrats on your retirement.

Forgot to add earlier.

"Retirement" doesn't mean you can't work at something. I know quite a few folks who work part time at jobs they enjoy. Many are 'people persons' who need the interaction with others so they work retail jobs of different types. Last month met one who was working a cash register at a Buckee's just so she could get out of the house and around people.

Old joke. Old retired guy works as a Walmart greeter. Great at job but is always 10-15min late. Boss says, "You're very good but you need to be on time. What happened in your past job when you were late?" He replied, "Someone would say, what would you like with your coffee this morning, Admiral."

I basically did "Honeydue" lists for about two years. Then got a part-time parts delivery job 3 days a week (keeps me in toy money) without having to dip into travel and other things the wife wants to do.
