Fine crosshair or MOA reticle Sightron 10-50

Looking at the the Sightron SIII 10-50x60, but having a hard time deciding between the above mentioned reticles.

Anyone here using the MOA reticle? How is it for target work? Is the center dot useful or inconvenient?

How clear is the fine crosshair? Some folks have mentioned having a hard time seeing them on dark backgrounds? Had a T36 with the FCH, didn't have any trouble with it.

90% of shooting will be on targets at known distances, but don't want to give up the option of the MOA as long as it doesn't impede shooting for score.

mattri, Both are good riticles and both have there place. However I have found that a Dot any Dot not just the Sightron MOA, obscures some amount of the target and "FOR ME" is not as accurate. The FCH I have never found to be a bother on the black of a target. I shot F-Class as well as Long Range Benchrest and while I shoot a nighforce scope I much prefer a reticle with no dot. YMMV.

For me its quicker to center a dot than crosshair in the middle of a round target. kinda like arpature sights are easier beacuse the eye can line up concentric circles quickly and accurately.

Excellent points, thanks for the replies. Will be interested to see if there is a general consensus on this or if it turns out to be more subjective than anything.

I have two 10 x 50 X 60 SIII Sightrons both have fine crosshair with dot. Not mil dots or mil rads. I was not aware of mil dot or mil rads as an option.

I have the MOA in a Sightron 8-32 and like it, but on the 10-50 Sightron chose the dot since it is 1/8 vs 1/4 moa for the MOA dot.
The dot is easier to center on the benchrest target.

I have the Nightforce NSX with CH-3 reticle
It has a very small free floating illuminated point, at 42x it covers about 10% of IBS 100 yard target centerpoint so it's not in any way covering the target more than the crosshair.

If Sightron has a similar sized reticle then it's the way to go for target shooting

I started with a 1/8th dot and gave it up.

When I'm shooting fast and holding off, the 1/8th dot is just another thing getting in the way.

The super small dots like in the NF CH-3 or NP2-DD aren't an issue from that perspective.

I have found that I do like having crosshairs of some sort to be able to twist knobs more easily on a windage rest, but I mostly use a joystick rest.

This might be of some help. These pics were taken with my phone camera (Samsung Galaxy 2) through my Sightron 111 8-32x56. This is the target version with 1/8 clicks and fine cross hairs.

The target is 100yds away, the first pic is at 8 power and the second is at about 20 power, the camera was just hand held.

Thanks again for the replies. It looks as though both reticles are available in 1/8 clicks, which is important to me. I sent an e-mail to Sightron re custom reticles, I've heard some chatter re a custom shop and wanted to hear what they have to say. If I can get a fine duplex, I'll go with that. Will post their reply.

Heard back from Sightron today.

The custom shop is currently under construction, hoping to be open around the first of the year.

At that time they will be able to change reticles within the current lineup, and/or change turrrets to a different click value.

So if I go with the MOA reticle for now, I can have the turrets changed to 1/8 if needed down the road.

Next question- Sightron lists the center dot as .25" at 24x, is this at 100 yards? It may have said and I just missed it.

Also, if my understanding is correct, the dot will appear smaller at higher magnificatin?
