Finally Times Two

After several unsuccessful hunts waiting for this hog I saw some two weeks ago to reappear in the field near the pumpkin patch farm, it finally showed up tonight just before 7 pm.

It was within minutes of arriving that I saw the hog in virtually the very same spot as the first time. I was able to quickly get into a prone position with the Savage 22-250 at the top of a hill overlooking the field and ranged the distance at 235. I got settled, put the crosshairs right at the top of its back and let the 45 grain hollow point fly to the target. I heard the smack. No movement at all. Yes! :D

At last, I finally made the 200 yard club! That makes a two finally night!

Here are the pictures. I did weigh the hog at 10lbs 6oz, but the light was too low by the time I got it back to the truck to take a photo. Next time I’ll bring the scale with me. ;)

Better leave some to reproduce or your stomping grounds will be empty next year.LOL

Great shot! For me shooting off shooting sticks, anything in the 200 yard range is a challenge.

I missed one on Tuesday at 224 yards, off the shooting sticks. Went out Wednesday and got another shot at him and this time I nailed him with my 223 Remington Varmint, 50 grain Nosler. Might have not been the same exact hog but it was at the same hole and about the same size.

They just cut the hay on one farm where I hunt so I'm hoping to get out next week and try my luck if hurricane Irene doesn't drown all of us in eastern PA!

took an old buddy to a new field late last week. we're looking in some fairly tall clover and i swear i see an eye and nose of a ghog. he doesn't see anything. i put the scope on the site and after assuring myself there was a nose, face and eye of a ghog there, i announced that i was going to envision the body in the clover and send one. BOOM! the eye, etc. wasn't there anymore. my buddy saw nothing. we went to check and of course my buddy said "you missed a ghog ghost". "look in the hole". a 12# 2 oz. "ghost" was extracted completely dead. my gunsmith told me always look in a hole if you shoot at one and can't find a body. later my buddy has one walking at 362 yds and he looks to be big. BOOM! he didn't like a sonic boom over his head and ran into the nearest hole, only to emerge 10 min later...my shot. the np-dd dot of my nightforce scope was easy to place just behind his left shoulder to which i sent a 60 gr berger from my 22-250. "he just dropped, but i don't see a body" the grass was 1in thick, at most. look in the hole...12# 4oz very dead ghog. a word of caution...don't put your hand into such holes unless you are sure the occupant is very dead. [/quote] if i can see you, i can touch you. BANG!
