Finally! Temperature not 90+° and ghog came Out!

We have had 90+° for weeks and since ghogs can't sweat, they will not come out. Farmers finally mowed their hay and morning temp was 70°, so I went afield. First field and I checked a small field marker I left on a hole last week. A head was sticking out and range was only 80 yrds, so I carefully opened my door, got gun and put a 55 gr Stark red prarie hollowpoints in his chest and he stopped everything. A 11# 4 oz male! No exit as these hollowpoints come apart instantly. 2 small ones followed. Went to another freshly mowed field and I knew where a large old den was located. Holy Moley! A standing ghog that looked like a tree stump. 200 yrds and he just watched as I got ready. Another 55 Stark from my 222 Rem mag slightly modified (30° shoulder and shorter neck) and he collapsed, with a tail salute. 11# 11 oz old male, two feet from his hole. Checked another field and nailed a small one. The farmer directed me to a site with multiple holes and a hillside covered with rocks. There he was. 200yds and he ignored me...bad choice. This time my 22 BRDX sent a 63 gr cheek at 3450 fps and lights out...9# 4 oz. I found several holes that were active, so "I shall return". I am having trouble posting pics but will keep trying.

Holmes County Ohio area. In three years I have only seen about 5 gh in a field. Never saw an obvious den in a hay field. I used to shoot about 50 every year for twenty years.

They are huge this time of year. I shot 3 on Friday and 3 yesterday, all were adults and were at least 10 pounds or a maybe little more. When they come out in a freshly cut hay field they look like miniature grizzly bears.

Our temp dipped below 78° on Sat, so I HAD to go to a field I have not hunted in 7 yrs...the landowner saw me a week prior and begged me to resume the "harvest". The sky was overcast and air was cool! Saw some rock formations that I would live in if I were a ghog. Well hell...there was a pig of the earth walking over some rocks. He stopped and I sent one...WHHUUPPP! 9# 4 oz male. The shadows were crossing the field and I glassed a wooded area that had good grass and l had taken some here 7 yrs ago. There she was munching away. Took a few to find the tiny reticle dot of the sightron. On her chest and sent a 55 Stark out the 222 Rem Mag modified and impact at 225 yrds was instantaneous. She was spread out like a rug and very dead. There was no blood and no exit, so, once again the 55 Stark dumped it's load in her chest. 12# 2 oz hogzilla, second largest of the year. Getting late and as I stood up I saw a very black coyote running for the woods...maybe he will be mine on another day.
