Final 108 Berger Test

Ok folks I think I'm done. I went this evening to test the 108 with two different primers. The results are very promising although the powder is moot because it's not available.

You will see powder charges on the targets as I did that this time to show not only what the difference in a primer makes but also gives more a visual as to what .2 grain of powder makes.

Today's test also was not shot in cherry picked conditions. I shot 3 fouler shots and went straight to my first dot and put four rounds down as fast as I could to try and equal running the rifle during a match. I would shoot two groups and clean then shoot 3 fouler shots and then shoot two more groups and so forth.... Also there was a front coming in and it was drizzle rain on and off during the testing as well.

The specs of the loaded round are Berger 108 BT seated at 1.842 which is .015 off the lands in my barrel.
Primers used and are noted on the target are F205m and CCI 450m. All previous tests were done with only the 205m primers. LOADED NECK DIA IS .2658 and the bushing used is a .263
Specs of the rifle are Bat B action with RBLPRE Krieger 1:8 HV .236 bore with a chamber neck of .268, stock is a Terry Leonard and scope used is the NF 15-55 comp set in Bat rings.

Today's test is the final of testing for me using the Berger 108 in this gun as I feel I can't improve over what's been shot today. Each test showed improvements as I made them from seating depth to powder charges to primer changes. This is a great bullet and in my opinion equals or betters any of the bullets on the market today. It's not sensitive to seating depth, it's not sensitive to powder charges and temp changes seems to be ok with this bullet as well. As I've shot it at 65* -80* high humidity to no humidity rain and no rain. I'm not sure what more I can elaborate on as for how consistent this bullet is or can be. If you have questions please feel free to ask. And I'm sorry for the powder situation on this as it is no help to you guys but I'm hoping that thru these tests over the past week it proves that the bullet works and works well.

Groups are measured with calipers and bullet dia subtracted. Nothing fudged if anything I was conservative to the measurements.

James, that 34.6grs load is phenomenal! I certainly hope you have a generous supply of that powder! Excellent shooting, excellent reporting and excellent results! Thanks for your efforts and the reporting of them! I appreciate it..

Thanks Ben,

I hope those starting out with the 6 Dasher can learn something from my postings and save them time and barrel life in there quest to find the best loads for there rifles.

As for powder I do have enough to hold me over thru many barrels. hopefully in the future this will become available to all of you as well.

James-Thanks so much for the information. It is extremely beneficial and inspiring to those of us working on our own. For me, your type of input is exactly what I hoped to get from this forum. Great shooting!

I'm currently seating my 108s at a 3 thousandths jump. I think I'll load a couple of groups worth at 12, 15, and 18 thousandths and see what happens.

Thanks,
Terry

Very helpful information. I learned from it. I do not shoot bench rest but do shoot a bench rest round in my pistol. (Wichita) 6 BR. Primers were a big question using Federal dueto the fact I can buy them locally.

you need to come up and bring a couple rifles,,I got good level range to 600 and can bang around on hillside to 1025,,have another bench and several steel targets up in a couple weeks,,

You're the man James, I sure wish others would use your method of reporting. It makes things so simple without the necessity to ask questions about the gun, load or anything.

However I'm sure it will take me some time to get groups at 500/600yd like you do, especially in adverse weather conditions like you had.

PS. Your loads told me your powder, wish I had some :-X 8)
