Ffl question

Hope this isn’t breaking any rules but if there’s an ffl holder or other person knowledgeable on transfer laws I’d appreciate some input.

If I inherited a hunting rifle from a family member in another state can I take possession of it there and mail it back to myself at my house? Rather not mess with checking it through an airport since I’m flying out of Washington DC.
Thanks

I dont think someone in another state can give you a firearm without a FFL transfer. in your own state you can do it

So who would ship it to an ffl? Is it the taking possession of it or mailing it to myself part that needs an ffl involved?

I believe it is the taking possession part. You can ship a rifle to yourself anywhere(in the US) without an ffl. There is no transfer occurring. IMO, it's a smart way to get a gun to a hunting location rather than flying with it.
