Hi I have some VT 103s what charge weight and seating depth would you start with - 6br 1-8 Hart. 272 neck chamber. Varget. Thinking of tuning at 100 [local range] before I go to 300 - 400
ty Don

Shot these at 100 yds today 2 flags, 8 -+ mph wind from 12 oclock. 29.7 Varget 450 primers. 2 shot groups, except last 2 / all were VT except the 1 marked VLD. 2.774 is hard jam with medium neck tension. 2.762 is touching lands. - Farley front rest, loaf rear bag. average for all was 2819 sd 10.5 thoughts TY Don

My winter load with 103gr Lapua bullets was 30.2 grains of Varget with CCI 450 primers.

But your barrel seems very, very slow (and you may have a slow lot of Varget). I was getting nearly 2900 fps with Varget in a 27" three-groove PacNor. I would expect you should get at least 2830. Your 2775 fps seems really slow.

I would also try about .007 to .009 past first touch (in the lands but NOT fully jammed).

All of my 6br bbls have tuned between 2825 and 2865 fps. It has taken between 29.9 and 30.8 Gr of Varget to get there. So far as seating depth they've worked between .020"off to .015" in the lands. Don't be discouraged--you've just got a lil more work to do.

If I didn't see dramatic improvement adjusting the charge (I, too, would increase) and backing off the seating depth a bit, I'd immediately switch powders and fire a few rounds at soft jam to see if any dramatic improvement.

Yeah don't get discouraged. Learn to make the process fun. I do tell myself this once in a while.
