Feeding 223 in a bolt gun

I am considering building a 223 bolt action for across the course highpower. Any thoughts on 223 feed reliability with aics mags? Does it eject ok as well?
Perhaps a 223 mag that did work could be placed in a part that would hold it in an aics magwell.

Accurate mag 223 AICS style mags work awesome. You can even file off the front lip on the polymer insert and gain addition length if shooting the heavier bullets.

Unless you have a High Master classification, for 223 I would reconsider the choice of the bolt action match rifle for this discipline. We get to shoot on a big target in XTC and the potential accuracy for the AR is almost as equal to the bolt gun.

+1

I use Accurate Mag in my PRS/F-Class rifle. For PRS I mag load 80g SMKs at 2.5xx". I did have to file the front lip to get it beyond 2.3".

I already have a 6xc and 308. This would be more for fun.

I had a Tikka 595 built in 223 back about 14 years ago for XTC, smooth action and was easier to shoot well with older eyes with a 26" 1:8 barrel. Running a bolt is kind of neat, takes a little practice to get the timing down, but, Tikka's single stack 5 round mags feed anything without a problem.

I don't shoot XTC any longer, only prone, but I converted the Tikka to a 223 AI with a 30" 1:8 Hart barrel for something different and it has become my favorite 300-600 yard rifle. In fact I shot it today and fell in love all over again.

Sure there are other calibers that are more efficient in a bolt configuration, but they are fun. In fact a HM friend has a 6BR and Dasher built on Eliseo frames for serious XTC competition, but also has a 223 in the same frame for cheap practice, same actions, barrel length, just different calibers.

I've also dremeled the plastic insert of Accurate steel .223 magazine to get enough room, it's a simple enough task. Use the 5rd mags for 'hunting' situations, where magazine capacity limits might be in local game laws?

Also, have been running 10rd polymer mags from MDT for a while now and they've been great! Allow 2.550", and they'll even fit & feed 10rds of 'blown out' .223AI. Have shot quite a few rounds of 223AI out of MDTs, with nary a hiccup. IMHO, worth a try...

I run the accurate mags in my .223, MPA chassis. My goal would also allow me to use the mdt mag. My buddies use them with no problems.

I use a Magpul 5 rd 308 mag as a single load sled for my 223 F-TR rifle. If I'm feeding from mags, MDT 223 mags have worked well to date.

I recently bought 2 Accuracy international 10 round mags for my daughter's convenience. I have used one for roughly 125=/- rounds and the plastic feed lips have worn down to the point it is very unreliable in feeding. I may have gotten a bad batch of plastic in mine but I am disappointed. I haven't looked into warranty deeply yet as I have only attempted to contact the store I bought it from online through email with no response yet. I have heard the accurate mags work well as well as the MDT. This is my limited experience with mag fed bolt 700. Maybe I got a bad one? It was sweet though to begin with.. I really like mag fed bolt guns!

Agreed, but using a bolt gun for XTC is soooo much more fun!
