Hello All,
I’m looking for anyone who shoots a 244/6mm Remington AI in long range competition.
I have searched this forum, as well as the whole web, and have come up with only a few posts, some with target pics that show outstanding accuracy. Most of what I’ve seen so far is telling me this 6mm Rem AI has more case capacity than 243AI, a very long throat, and the ability to launch DTACs up to 3600fps, 105s and 107s to insane speeds, with no pressure issues. Seems that a lot of people are using some type of 6mm, but some of the latest chamberings seem to be hard on barrels, although the 6 SLR looks promising. The idea of a very flat shooting, very fast, wind cheating round has a certain appeal.
I sure 6mm Rem AI is overbore, but my thoughts were with lots of slow burning powder, and a long neck might offset some of the deleterious effects of pushing the heavier bullets to extreme speeds, even doing so easily. I considered 6-06 AI, but was hoping to use the action I have. I think brass is still made, but couldn’t find any in stock anywhere, strange for a round that very few shoot.
I’ve got a 308 Rem 40XC action, as the center of this plan to build a good mid range, as well as long range competition rifle. I’m thinking a 34â€, 1 in 8†twist, Schneider P5 maybe, or a good 5C offering,( my Broughton 5C shoots awesome), and buying a semi inletted prone stock, and finishing it myself, got more time than money. I’m thinking $1000-1200 for a budget. Tell me what you think.
Thanks, Kent
