FedEx vs UPS Ammo Shipping – What a Mess

Tried to ship ammo from Georgia to Phoenix for SWN.

In the past I used FedEx without any issues. This time, I was told at the FedEx warehouse that they no longer accept Limited Quantity items at any FedEx location. The only option now is to schedule a pickup.

Fine-except when I went online to schedule it, I discovered that FedEx now requires you to be a certified shipper to send this type of material at all. That’s a new requirement compared to previous years, and not exactly something you can just fix last-minute.

So that effectively leaves UPS as the only option.

But then look at what UPS is charging. For a single box of about 33 lbs, roughly 40 × 30 × 30 cm, the shipping cost is absurd.

Between FedEx quietly changing policy and UPS pricing like it’s hazardous waste, shipping ammo has become way more painful than it needs to be. Just another example of logistics getting worse, more expensive, and less transparent every year.

You have cm listed in your text, but the UPS site is typically inches. Might check the measurements were entered correctly and it may be cheaper.

I think something is funky with your inputs. I just put in your package weight and dimensions to the UPS calculator, added Direct Delivery and Adult Signature Required (since it's Limited Quantity), and came up with about $160 between an Atlanta and Phoenix ZIP code.

Thank you for your kindness. I’ll do my best to keep them centered on the pinwheel.
Just curious, do you keep your loading gear in the US or carry it across from Canada ?
Is it difficult to bring your rifle back and forth across the border ?
Primers & powder have always been an issue for me in cross border International transport. Centred or Centered…. Aluminum or Aluminium {:~)

I have 3000 rounds of ammo on my Form 6NIA. I load most of my rounds during winters and cross border with it. I seat them long and travel with Lee hand loading press with Redding seating die. I keep standard load for all of my barrels, just change seating depth to find smallest possible group.
Crossing a border is not difficult with rifle. You just need an invitation from the club where you're going to shoot, and your Form 6NIA.
There have been occasions when I was pulled to the secondary to check my Rifle serial number with Form 6NIA. But most of the times right there at the booth they check the serial number and let me go.
You can't take loose components with you.
