Federal Primers?

I started loading up some .357 sig ammo and am having big problems with these Federal #100 primers not going into the pocket. It's like they are too big in diameter and if I push down hard enough it looks like they are getting squashed in the primer pocket. I tried about 5 times with different cases and got the same results. I then decided to try some WSP primers and no problem at all. ANyone have an idea why this is or what is wrong? Here's a pic showing the Federal primer squashed in the case.

Afterthought, do these sig cases have the primers crimped? They don't look like it.

I've never had any problems seating Federal Primers, but if you are pushing them had enough to deform them like that, I sure hope you are wearing safety glasses when priming! I never used to myself, but have read some real horror stories and do now.

I had that happen with some Sellier and Bellot small pistol primers as well. Winchester primers slipped easily in the pocket while the S&B primers were hard to seat.

I have found pistols rounds to be very forgiving...I have smashed many worse that that and they all have worked normally and never a misfire while seating. Might have been a out of spec run.

I measured both the Federal and the WSP primers and the Federals were .001" larger. Thing is I measured the pocket and it was smaller than both the primers so maybe the federal primers are harder and don't give as much.

I'll just use the Federals for my other caliber loads which don't have that problem.

Did you have some debrie on the primer seating stem? I see some scratches on the primer, maybe that was cocking the primer a little.

Shouldn't have been any debri because this one is about the 3rd one in a row that did it and I had taken the air hose and to the press and wiped everything down. That scratch is probably from when I advanced the plate to the next stage and since the primer wasn't seated all the way it caught the bottom of the press and I had to manually force it back again.

No that's why I tried to make everything clean because it had already happened a few times, cleaned it but it didn't help before or after. Just to make sure I took a couple more Federal primers just a few minutes ago and tried them and they both were hard to get in then back to the WSP and they went in fine so it is a problem with the Federal primers, just don't know what for sure other than they are .001" bigger in diameter than the WSP's.
