Federal Primers

Are you fellow shooters in the States having problems with the supply of federal primers. In the land of down under,Australia) the supply of federal match grade primers for both rifle and pistol has diminished. Can not get a straight answer from federal or its so called importers. Any body got any scuttle butt in what is happening

Tell me about it mate!
I got the last 5000 Fed SR match primers from Horsley park and they said their next shipment when it turns up will be going to fill their back orders.
I dont know when the next shipment of Federal primers will hit our shores.
In interest what caliber do you use?

In f class standard 308 and 223, in pistol 38 special

The supply of Federal rifle primers on dealers shelves has just about dried up locally. The information that I have suggests that Federals' parent company,ATK) has pretty much diverted its primer manufacturing capacity to fulfill US Gov't military contracts at the Lake City Arsenal, which they administer for the Gov't.

Word on the street has it that there will not be a large Federal primer presence at the retail consumer level until 2009. I sincerely hope that it's wrong! In the meantime I've swithced to CCI BR-2 and BR-4 with no ill effects.

After having been periodically disappointed with the availability and occasional quality issues of Federal primers I switched over to CCI and Winchester some ten or fifteen years ago. I've found Winchester to be a pretty good match with the Reloader and IMR powders,load adjustment required, the Winchesters seem to be a little hotter primer), while the CCI primers work very well with Hogdon powders.
