Federal Primer Boxes

If Federal had chosen fifty of the stupidest morons of Tic-Tok to design their primer boxes, they couldn't have come up with a worse design. Rant over. jd

Well I guess Remington decided not to follow a Federal mandate if that's the case with their primer boxes? RIGHT.

I remember when the change was made. As I remember the report from many years ago, there is a test for the shipping explosive classification for primers where a cubic meter of primers packaged for shipment is subjected to an explosive charge and the Federal packaging failed the test. That is there was an explosion of the primers. So the Federal packages were changed to pass the test.

Yeah, but if CCI didn't fail, and Federal owns them, I'm sure the packaging would suffice for both. I guess I read too much into it, but I HATE Federal's packaging.

It has to do with the sensitivity of the primer to the test. CCI and Federal are not the same primer.

Boyd is absolutely right. To force the others to adopt the new Federal box also would have meant that the ATF would have to do actual work. Not on their list of things that they are in a big rush to do.

I've been reloading for a few years, and all I ever used was CCI. Then I got 5000 federal primers, a couple weeks back and put them on the shelf. It makes me feel like I have way more than I do. That's a win in my book! Haha

That is funny but just in case we, should warn those not familiar with the hazards of primers that they should not be stored in any other manner except the original boxes because unlike smokeless powder, they are an explosive.

Evidently this was specific to Federal, in response to an incident that happened in their facility, not a mandate that applied to all manufacturers.
