Federal 205, 205M 205MAR question

Today I stopped at Graf's to pick up some Federal GM205M (or 205) primers, but all they had was GM205MAR (basically, GM205M for an AR). I didn't buy them, because I was not sure what they were.

Today I went to Federal's website, and they do show the 205, but not the GM205 M. The only small rifle Match primer they show is the GM205 M AR.

I am just getting started in Benchrest, and have been told by the guys who shoot the small groups that the only difference between a GM 205M and the 205 is a visual inspection, and they are made on the same line. Many of the Benchrest shooters use either.

So now the 205 M seem to be gone and replaced by the 205 MAR. Has anybody used the 205MAR?

Can I assume the GM205MAR is a good substitute for the 205 M in a 6PPC?

I believe the 205 MAR is the same as a 205 M compound wise - but has a harder primer cup to prevent slam fires in an AR style rifle.

I have no experience with the AR primers in a 6PPC but I have and do use them in a 30BR. Started using them when the GM Match primers were unobtainable. I have had no bad experiences, seen no difference in group size and won a couple of matches with them. This is short-range benchrest, which I assume you are shooting with a 6 PPC. The long range guys may have had different results. dedogs

Thank you, that was the info I was looking for. I will give them a try.

I have seen 205m here in gunshops. They were scarce along with 210m. I shoot regular 210 for 1000 yard and have seen no difference in accuracy. I have shot 210M and regular 210 primers off and on for at least 9 years. About 50-50 depending upon what I could buy. There were no difference in groups at 1000 but I weigh my primers for competition. Matt

I have been using the AR primers in my Dasher this season and I cannot detect any difference in performance between these and 205's. James
