FCWC 2023, South Africa, range conditions.

Mar/Apr 2023, who all have planned to go?

Has anyone shot long range at the Gen De Wet range, South Africa?
Can they share what were the general weather and wind conditions in which they shot?

Bloemfontein is around 4500ft altitude. Would that alone have any effect on loads/nodes? I currently shoot FTR at sea level and at 2000 ft, and see no difference on paper.

I fired in their Nationals in 2009, 2013, and 2017, and have been trying to get back there ever since. Was shooting Fullbore/Palma rifle at that time. I don't recall ever getting up over about 12 minutes in windage, though we did have one morning with 5 minutes on at 300 meters. It was always breezy, but readable. Never got rained on, while shooting, in all the time over there, but this year they had lakes on the range. It has been an unusually wet year for the high desert. Temps were cool in the mornings, with some quite hot afternoons, but not Phoenix hot. I don't recall any elevation differences from home (sea level), but there must have been some at the long lines. Would have to check the notebook.

The biggest differences were driving on the wrong side of the road and trying not to drive into the ditch when one sees zebra/giraffe/kudu/springbok/ostrich/etc. standing out in the fields. And seeing some of the same critters on the range. EVERY plant out there will reach out and grab/stab you. It's a great place to shoot and is absolutely my personal favorite.
