Fate of a new rimfire cartridge's

A while back one of the ammo manufacturers was teasing about a new rimfire cartridge. I’ve not heard how far they got. I believe it was to be based on a nail gun power cartridge and was to be around .22 caliber. Does anyone remember this, and what ever came of it?

Are you thinking of the 17 WSM? The nail gun cartridge is what it was built on.

Don't know anything about a 22 cal round built on the nail gun cartridge, but as drover said, the 17 Win Super Mag is based on the nailgun cartridge. Savage has been making a bolt rifle chambered for this round for at least a couple of years. Zermatt offers or plans to offer bolt heads with the correct dimensions for the 17 WSM for their RimX action, and I've seen at least one dealer advertise bbl'd RimX actions in 17 WSM. I know next to nothing about the cartridge, but have read some pretty negative comments on the lack of uniformity of the cartridge cases, leading to less than stellar accuracy. Like I said, I have no experience with shooting this round, but if Zermatt is going to the expense & effort to supply boltheads for it, they must feel the round has potential.

There was some talk on the predator hunting sites a while back of a possible .22 WSM, looking for a little more knockdown for coyotes in rimfire only areas.

I'd sure think if they did come out with a 22 WSM it wouldn't just be a straight necked up version of the 17 WSM or it would just be a matter of time before some idiot was shooting 17 WSM in his 22 WSM or vice versa then the lawsuits would be on.
