Fastest known bullet speed?

After reading about bullet speeds over 4000fps on this forum, I got to thinking how much faster a bullet can go/has been fired. Has anyone ever heard of a cartridge that surpasses the 4000 FPS range?

A couple guys hit 5315 with a 20 cal. Bullet a few months ago. There was an article about it in trigger magazine.

I had my .220Russian doing over 4100 with a 52 grain bullet but it wasn't competitive and brass growth was horrendous. I slowed it down to 3700 and started winning and brass growth was manageable.

My 220 Swift hit 4500 fps with 36 grain bullets and 28 inch barrel. Think the bullets kept coming apart when varmint hunting. I slowed them down a bit.

Look in the older Hornady manual under the 17 Remington. Varget, 20 V-Max will get you 4400fps.

17 Mach IV/Fireball gets >4100fps with the 20gr.

In a good chamber, the 17 Remington should beat that 4400 number

If you include anything the Dr. Gerald Bull's "MARTIET' was over 10,000 fps. Since an M1 was included I mention this.

From the Hodgdon website, MV for the 35 Nosler LF, max load is 4401. That is smokin'.

I hear tell the 6.5 Creed is the fastest.

So fast no chrono can clock it.

So fast that if you aren't careful with your elevation it can reach low earth orbit and put you at risk of shooting yourself in the back of the head
It has to be true. Otherwise you can't post it on the Creedmoor worshippers website!

you guys have it all wrong,
it is the 6 cm that is fastest, regular light based chrono cannot clock it.
you have to use lab radar,
and yes duck every time you shoot.

A friend of mine is a scientist for NASA. He was telling me they have a gun that shoots particles to simulate objects striking the space station or other objects in space. Shoots about 4.3 miles per second. Not a rifle like we're use to but still pretty amazing
